When you become a parent, something inside of you fundamentally changes. You don matter anymore. Your child is all that matters. I always thought this was bullshit before I had kids, just something people said because society guilted them into it, but it not. There definitely something that changes. It not to say you can dislike your own child at times or there aren major difficulties in parenting that makes you sometimes wish you just stayed single and celebrate and just did whatever you wanted, but in spite of all that, the feeling remains.

I absolutely know what it looks like and how hard it is. Those folks don’t have an issue with you if you aren’t abusing the system (which it really doesn’t sound like you are), they have a problem with those who do and that they are as frustrated by the economy as you are.

While you may respect them or think them worthy of such esteem, in actual fact you are setting your relationship with them up for failure. We hold people that we put on pedestals to a higher standard than we hold ourselves or others. In other areas of their lives they have their shortcomings and when you have someone on a pedestal your tendency is to focus only on your own.
